DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

The trek begins from machame gate with a scenic walk through the rainforest. You’ll follow a well-trodden trail surrounded by trees and vibrant greenery. As you make your way toward Machame Camp, you’ll enjoy the peaceful sounds of the forest, setting the stage for the adventure ahead.

 

Elevation: 1,800m/5,905ft to 3,000m/9,840ft

Distance: 10km/6.2mi

Hiking Time: 5-7 hours

Habitat: Rainforest

Accommodation: Machame Camp

Today, you will leave the rainforest behind and enter a new terrain of heath and moorland. The path is relatively gradual, offering great views of the mountain. As you move toward Shira Camp, the landscape will change to wide, open spaces with scattered shrubs and rocky outcrops.

Distance: 5km/3.1mi

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Habitat: Heath and Moorland

On Day 3, you will trek towards Lava Tower, passing through an alpine desert environment. The path winds through rocky and sparse vegetation, offering panoramic views. After reaching Lava Tower, you will descend towards Barranco Camp, where you’ll find a more diverse landscape with lush vegetation.

Today, you will trek from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp. The terrain will be challenging with a steep ascent followed by a gradual descent, but the scenery is absolutely stunning. You’ll enjoy panoramic views of the mountain and its surrounding landscapes as you make your way towards Karanga Camp.

Today, you will continue your climb toward Barafu Camp, situated at a higher altitude. The path is rocky, with dramatic views of the mountain. After arriving at Barafu Camp, you will rest and prepare for the summit attempt the following day.

Distance: 6km/3.7mi

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Habitat: Alpine Desert

Accommodation: Barafu Camp

On Day 6, you will begin your summit attempt in the early hours. The climb is strenuous, but reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro will be an unforgettable achievement. After spending time at the summit, you will descend to Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest.

Distance: 13km/8.1mi

Hiking Time: 12-14 hours

On the final day of your trek, you will descend from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate through the rainforest. The descent is much easier and offers a chance to reflect on your journey. Once you reach Mweka Gate, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi to relax and celebrate your success.
